Tonbridge Angels v Maidstone United
Lloyd Hume says he and Maidstone United joint-boss Alan Walker are “begging and borrowing” in a bid to bolster their depleted squad.
The postponement of Tuesday’s Kent Senior Cup quarter-final against Bromley only added to the Stones’ problems ahead of the derby clash against Tonbridge Angels at Longmead on Saturday (3pm).
It means that skipper Ben Lewis is ruled out at the weekend because of a one-match ban and with Ian Cox doubtful due to work commitments, Maidstone could go into the Ryman League Premier Division game without a recognised centre-half.
Hume said: “We have the smallest squad in the league and Alan and I are making lots of phone calls, begging and borrowing to bring somebody in.
“Looking for the quality of player to do a better job than what we have got, is difficult."
Striker Meshach Nugent is back at the Stones, following his loan spell at Croydon Athletic, while goalkeeper Andy Walker could return after injuring his shoulder in the warm-up against Hastings a fortnight ago.
Tommy Warrilow admitted his Tonbridge side were fortunate to win 1-0 at Maidstone United early in the season - but the Tonbridge manager would happily accept a similar outcome on Saturday.
“It was a poor game at their place, said Warrilow. “We sneaked it with a very late goal by Jamie Cade. Although I am hoping that Saturday’s game will be more like a derby, with a bit more passion, I would settle for another late 1-0 win.”
Warrilow has a near full squad to pick from with the exception of full-back Simon Glover, who serves the final game of a three-match suspension.
