Jay Saunders celebrates his 300th game as Maidstone manager next week.
He takes charge of No.299 at home to Forest Green on Saturday and chalks up his latest milestone at Boreham Wood on Bank Holiday Monday.
Saunders has led United to three promotions in four seasons, forging a reputation as one of the best young managers in non-league.
Not that he’s given any consideration to his standing in the game.
Saunders, who has a 59% win ratio, said: “You’re so busy as a manager, constantly sorting out things and watching games, that you don’t give it a thought.
“You just carry on doing your job until you’re told otherwise. I love it here, I’ve got a good relationship with Terry Casey, Oliver Ash (co-owners) and Bill Williams (chief executive).
“You say my stock must be good and there must be people looking but I don’t know. I just get on with it. Football changes quickly. We’ve had a lot of success but we could end up struggling and I’m out of a job.”
Saunders, who completed five years in charge in March, had no idea his 300th game was coming up.
He said: “I’m surprised it’s as many as 300. Managers don’t tend to get that long nowadays so it’s nice to reach that number.
“You’ve got Neil Cugley at Folkestone and Tony Burman at Dartford but no one seems to last that long now.”
