Stones boss hopeful after trip

MAIDSTONE manager Jim Ward believes his side can progress even further in this season’s FA Cup after watching his side’s next opponents Newport, Isle of Wight, in action on Tuesday night.

Ward says Maidstone’s 3-2 victory over another Dr Martens League side, Tonbridge Angels, in the FA Cup last weekend shows his side has nothing to fear.

"We will be the underdogs again, but this will be a great day out for our players and supporters and who knows what can happen on the day,” said Ward.

The Maidstone United Supporters Club has already filled the one 74-seater luxury coach it could get booked on the 10am ferry next Saturday leaving up to 300 other fans to find their own way to the game.

A win for Maidstone in the first qualifying round, again in front of the BBC and Sky Sports News cameras will earn them another £7,500 in prize money to add to the £1,500 already collected from their victories against Ramsgate and the Angels.
