Maidstone fans have been warned not to get carried away by the club’s impressive start to the season.

United are top of the Ryman League, Premier Division ahead of two home games in four days against struggling sides. They take on Harrow Borough on Saturday and entertain Thamesmead on Tuesday.

Boss Jay Saunders said: “We’re over the moon to be top of the league but people can get carried away by that.

“We had it last year and when you’re playing teams at the bottom, the expectations are there even more. People have got to remember we are new to this league.”

Captain Steve Watt has recovered from a sickness bug so Stones go into the weekend with a fully-fit squad.

Saunders has called on his side to take advantage of the visitors’ poor form. He said: “When you’re playing teams down the bottom, it’s important to start well.

“If you get a couple of early goals against a struggling side, that’s when their confidence goes. They’ll be up for playing in front of 2,000 people and will raise their game, so I hope we can start well.”

With the luxury of a full-strength squad, Saunders is facing a few selection dilemmas.

He said: “I might upset a few people but I make everyone aware of the situation when they sign. If players play well, they keep the shirt and if they aren’t playing well, they’ll be out of the side. It keeps everyone on their toes."
