George Elokobi is back for another season at Maidstone United and will help coach the club’s youngsters too.
The popular former Wolves man has agreed a deal to coach at the club’s football academy.
Chief exec Bill Williams was delighted, saying: “Every team I’ve managed or been involved with has always had a natural leader and George is up there with the best of them.
“Not only will we continue to benefit from his leadership and experience on the field, we’re delighted he will be involved with our academy this season.
“Those lads can learn a lot from someone like George, who’s played at the highest level but went through the school of hard knocks to get there, which made him into the man we know and love today.”
Elokobi, 34, made 38 appearances during the 2019/20 season after signing on at the Gallagher Stadium last summer.
The club say “his unique and infectious leadership will help the next generation with football and life skills.”
Cameroon-born Elokobi spent six years at Wolves between 2008 and 2014 where he played in the Premier League, before turning out for a handful of Football League teams, including Nottingham Forest.
The player said he was delighted to have extended his stay and that he had “unfinished business”, adding: “I want to thank the owners, chief executive, the manager Hakan for trusting me to carry on delivering for this club.
“Thank you to all the supporters and I look forward to banging the drums this season.”
