George Elokobi would love to reward Maidstone fans’ patience with a midweek home victory.

The Stones’ winless run in the National League reached 18 games on Saturday when they lost 2-1 to Woking.

A committed performance proved in vain as Elokobi’s men conceded in the sixth minute of added time.

The pursuit of a first victory since the end of November continues against Bromley at the Gallagher tonight.

Relegation is inevitable, with United 14 points from safety going into their final seven games.

But they’ll continue to give everything in the hope of bringing some cheer to long-suffering fans.

New boss Elokobi said: “Our supporters are some of the best in this country that I’ve seen in my experience in football and they understand. The real Maidstone supporters understand.

“They understand our circumstances, they’re ever so patient but they can see we are trying and they know there is a rebuilding process going on and it will get better.

“I keep saying this, it will get better.

“This is going to make us stronger as a football club.

“It’s going to make our team more resilient wherever we go after this season is done.

“But we’ve got to make sure we keep putting on performances and hopefully we’ll get that win in front of our home crowd before the season finishes.”

Josh Shonibare is one to watch for the Stones tonight.

He impressed in a new role up top alongside Sol Wanjau-Smith on Saturday, having previously played right-back and right-midfield.

The former Cheshunt man scored his third goal for the club as Maidstone took a second-half lead against Woking.

“His performances have been very, very good,” said Elokobi.

“Ever since I brought him in, he’s one that’s really excelling and there’s plenty more to come.

“We’ve been working ever so hard, myself and the management team behind the scenes, to ensure that players understand their roles and the different roles they can play within the team structure.

"It was good to see him get that goal again.

“He just keeps giving more and more every time he’s asked to play.

“I love those types of players and Josh is definitely one.

“He’s won a lot of hearts here because of his wholehearted performances, as much as the other players as well.”
