Maidstone's home game against Macclesfield has been postponed - with most of the home team stuck on the M25.
An accident near the Dartford Bridge has led to three-hour delays.
Only five available Stones players had arrived at the Gallagher Stadium - Lee Worgan, Josh Hare, Dean Beckwith, Will De Havilland and Jack Richards.
Ollie Muldoon and Stuart Lewis also made it but are injured and suspended respectively.
The referee could have insisted on the game going ahead had Maidstone had seven fit players in the dressing room.
United announced on Twitter that kick-off had been delayed due to a serious collision on the M25 and at 7.45pm admitted defeat in their efforts to get the game on.
The two clubs looked into the possibility of hastily rearranging the match for tomorrow night but it's not possible, with March 20 likely to be the new date.
Maidstone chief executive Bill Williams said: "This is the first time in my 50 years in the game that I've experienced anything like this happening.
"When we travel to home or away games we always allow plenty of time and, under normal circumstances, all of our players would have been at the ground by 5.45.
"Unfortunately, no one could have envisaged this multi-vehicle crash, which caused a huge spillage and closed the Kent-bound carriageway.
"I can understand everyone's frustrations and feel for those supporters who travelled from Macclesfield, but as you can appreciate this incident is beyond our control.”
