Maidstone boss Jay Saunders feels his side are going under the radar - and that’s just how he likes it.
United are top of the form guide going into Saturday’s home game against Gateshead.
A return of 16 points from the last seven games has moved them up to seventh place in the National League table - the final play-off spot - but no one’s really talking about them.
Saunders said: “I’m quite enjoying it - we’re kind of going under the radar.
“That seems to be us and I’ve got no issue with that.
“It’s quite nice and I think the boys are quite enjoying it, too, and just going about their jobs.
“Sooner or later, if you carry on doing that, then people are going to take notice of you.
“That said, I think we’ve got the respect of other managers and other teams.
“Every manager you hear says how we’ve recruited well and we’ve got a good side.
“We’re in a good place but we’re two months into the season and it’s early days.”
Stones are missing Delano Sam-Yorke (hamstring), Josh Hare (groin) and Tom Wraight (ankle) against Gateshead but Joe Anderson is expected to recover from a knock.
The Heed won 2-0 at the Gallagher last season, with United winning the return 2-1 on a day they hit the headlines after being picked up from the ground by a party bus.
Saunders said: “Neil Aspin, the manager, has got them organised this year.
“They’ve been a little bit inconsistent, I think he’ll probably tell you that, but I’ve got a lot of time for Neil, his sides are always good sides.
“We’re in for a tricky one but we’ve not lost at home yet and we want to keep that going.”
