Maidstone winger Alex Flisher is expected to be out for a minimum of six weeks - but don't rule out a quick recovery.
Flisher was stretchered off with a knee injury shortly after scoring Stones' winner against Bognor Regis last Saturday - his 16th goal this season.
Boss Jay Saunders said: "The bruising has come out but the swelling is still up.
"We think it's his medial ligaments but we're waiting to find out more.
"At a guess he'll be out for a minimum of six weeks but if there's no operation needed, people will be surprised how quickly Flish heals. He's always been a quick healer."
United fans turned on Harvey Whyte following his challenge on Flisher but no free-kick was awarded and Saunders cleared the Bognor man of blame.
He added: "As soon as I walked into the dressing room I said I thought it was a good tackle and Flish even said so.
"The problem is you don't see many hard tackles nowadays. Anything remotely hard and people moan, plus the fact it was on Flish.
"The lad won the ball and caught him after. Flish had a bad touch and lined himself up for it really.
"He's massive loss, however long he's out.
"He proved again on Saturday what a big player he is for us.
"I didn't think he was having his best game but he got the flick for Jack Parkinson's goal and then scored the winner.
"That's the thing with Flish - even when he's not playing well he still offers you something."
