Maidstone opened up a 12-point lead in the Ryman League Premier Division with a 3-1 victory at Billericay on Monday night.
Three goals in four minutes at the end of the first half, including another Jay May double, turned the match United's way after Billericay took an early lead.
Stones' nearest rivals are now Hendon, who moved above Margate into second place after beating Met Police 2-1.
Harry Baker put Billericay in front after only nine minutes.
George Porter had a penalty appeal waved away before Jack Parkinson levelled from May's ball on 41 minutes.
May, who scored both goals in Stones' 2-1 win over Lewes on Saturday, then struck twice in first-half injury time and went close to a hat-trick after the break.
