Maidstone’s bid for Delano Sam-Yorke has been rejected by Woking.
Stones made an offer for the striker following a successful two-month loan spell at the Gallagher.
But with Woking three points behind Maidstone in the fight for National League survival, they were unwilling to sell.
Stones boss Jay Saunders said: “Woking don’t want to let him go, so we move on.
“We made an offer but they didn’t want to take it, which is understandable.
“He’s their player and they have to do what’s right for them.
“It was good of them to let us have him in the first place.
“When you send a player out on loan, you want him to go and find some form and that’s what’s happened with D.”
Saunders could go back in for Sam-Yorke, when his Woking contract expires in the summer.
He said: “My priority is to stay in this league and if we do that, we can start planning for next year.
“He’s someone I’d be interested in because he’s done well for us but football changes so quickly, so who knows what will happen?”
A move for another forward was rejected this week and while Saunders isn’t desperate, he’ll keep an eye out.
He said: “At the moment there’s no one else but I’m happy with the options we’ve got.
“Yemi Odubade scored a few in a friendly on Tuesday and is looking sharp and we’ve got Alex Flisher back from a ban.”
Maidstone are five points clear of the relegation zone but don’t play again until Sutton visit on March 21 - the night the new North Stand will be opened.
Saturday’s scheduled opponents Macclesfield are in FA Trophy semi-final action against Tranmere, as are Lincoln, against York, the following weekend.
Saunders said: “It’s frustrating because we’re on a good run and the boys are buzzing but what can you do?
“I said the other week if we were going to stay up we’d have to do it the hard way and that’s proving the case.
“We’ll train tonight and Saturday, I’ll get a friendly for Tuesday and sort another friendly for next Saturday.
“It’s difficult because most teams are playing but we’ve had some interest.
“We just need to try and keep the boys on their toes as best we can.”
