Justin Amaluzor swapped one relegation fight for another but says joining Maidstone from Braintree was a no-brainer.

The former Barnet winger has signed an 18-month deal at the Gallagher, making his debut as a second-half substitute at Bromley on Saturday.

His new team are only a point better off than his old one at the foot of the National League but that doesn't worry the 22-year-old.

He's excited to be working again with Stones head coach Hakan Hayrettin, his old boss at Braintree, and knows all about John Still's reputation.

Amaluzor said: "Hakan contacted me asking if I wanted to come over.

“It’s such a big club so I didn’t think twice, I just said yes.

"I know John Still as well, he’s a great manager, he’s been around for years and it was a no-brainer to come and work with these two managers.

"I feel they can both bring the best out of me.

“Braintree are a good club and they’ve got good people there but Maidstone is a very big club with a very big fan base as well, so you can’t really compare them.

“John and Hakan have told me to work hard and that’s my philosophy.

“They know I can do that and I will do that for them.

“I’m here to work hard and try my best to keep the team up.”

Amaluzor is surprised to see Maidstone 10 points from safety.

Their prospects look bleak but the new man is staying positive.

He said: "When I first came in and went into training, I didn’t know how this team were down there because the quality we have in there is unbelievable.

“But you know football, sometimes results don’t go your way.

“But I believe, and this is me being truthful, that all we need is a win or two in the league and we’ll go on a run.

“I believe we can stay up, personally.

“The quality’s there, it’s just finding the right team, the right squad to play, and working hard for each other.

“It’s a strong league but I believe we have some of the best players in the league so I don’t know how we’re down there.”
