Callum Driver returns to Dartford on Saturday knowing he made the right decision to join Maidstone.

Right-back Driver finished last season with Darts as Tony Burman’s side were relegated from the Conference.

He was invited back for pre-season training but an offer from Jay Saunders saw the former West Ham youngster move to the Gallagher Stadium.

Driver credits Darts with helping him adapt to non-league football but his switch to Stones could hardly have worked out better. He’s earned rave reviews and been tipped to return to the professional game.

Driver, 23, said: “Dartford gave me an opportunity to get back on track after Whitehawk let me go.

“Tony took me on and helped me with the transition after coming out of the West Ham academy and playing reserve and under-21 level. Being involved in the first team and playing at some of the big Conference sides was a great experience."

Saunders is among those who feel Driver has a chance of playing in the Football League. He’s been outstanding at right-back, both defensively and getting forward.

Driver said: “It’s nice to hear people saying good things and recognising my performances but I just take it all in my stride and try to play the best I can.

“I’d love to get back in the league. I said that as soon as West Ham let me go. The main thing is I’m enjoying my football at Maidstone.

"If anything comes up, I’ll cross that bridge when it comes to it.”
