Callum Driver expects Maidstone fans to be out in force for the first away game in the National League.

Jay Saunders’ side go to Aldershot tonight for a clash of the last two Football League clubs to go bust - the Shots folding in March 1992, followed by United five months later.

The Hampshire club have been back in the professional ranks since then, spending five seasons in League 2 from 2008 to 2013, while for United this is the highest level they’ve been at since going out of business on the eve of the 1992-93 Division 3 campaign.

Maidstone started their first season back in the top flight of non-league with a bright performance in a 1-1 draw against York City on Saturday, while Aldershot lost to an early goal at Barrow.

Stones right-back Driver is looking forward to his first appearance at the Recreation Ground.

He said: "We had a really good away record last season and hopefully we can take that with us this year.

“The away support is amazing, it was everywhere we went, even down to Truro and places like that. Hopefully everyone will get behind us down at Aldershot.

“The ground’s nice, the pitch is really good there, so it should be a surface where we’re able to move the ball around quite well."

Driver was happy with his performance against York, impressing in a new-look back four featuring summer signings Kevin Lokko and Anthony Acheampong in central defence.

He said: "I started off a little bit sloppy but I grew into the game, finished it quite strongly and got back to my old self.

"Defensively we were quite sound and hopefully we are for most of the games this season."

Alex Flisher should be fit after coming off against York with cramp.
