Maidstone extended their unbeaten run to five games in Ryman League Premier Division but saw their lead at the top cut on a cagey day of action on Saturday.

None of the top 13 clubs lost on a day with seven draws in the division, including the Stones’ 1-1 tie at Leatherhead.

Second-placed Hendon were one of just five teams to win in the division, pulling within seven points of the Stones, who have played a game more.

Margate are still third, now six points behind Hendon but with two games in hand, and nine points clear of the play-off chasing pack.

Steve Watt powered home a header from a corner to rescue a point for the visitors against the in-form Tanners.

Jay May had fired over early-on before Stones botched an opening from their own free-kick, with the ball being cleared back to last-man James Rogers, who was caught in possession by Vasileios Karagiannis who tore clear before firing past Lee Worgan to open the scoring on 18 minutes.

May was denied a headed equaliser by a good save from Louis Wells after a Matt Bodkin cross just before the break but there was still time before the interval for Frannie Collin to send in a fine corner which was met powerfully by Watt to beat Wells.

After the break neither keeper was really troubled, though Wells had to hold a Collin free-kick after a foul on May on 53 minutes and collect a weak shot from Jack Parkinson, while Worgan was equal to a fierce drive from Karagiannis from distance.
