Corinthian-Casuals 1 Maidstone United 2
ON THE day that Maidstone United finally started work on their new ground, Alex Tiesse gave the club’s supporters a second reason to celebrate by scoring a 72nd minute winner to move the Stones into the Ryman League Division 1 South play-off places.
The Stones dominated against basement-side Corinthian-Casuals, but fell behind to a freak goal in the 31st minute, when keeper Pat Mullin and Nathan Paul collided while attempting to make a routine clearance.
With both players on the floor, the ball fell to Corinthian’s Danny Green, who rolled the ball into an empty net.
The Stones equalised five minutes before the break when Aaron Lacy’s cross dropped to Nick Hegley on the edge of the six-yard area and he scored with a deflected shot.
On the hour Hegley hit the post with a header, but United finally went in front when Ryan Royston’s pass found Tiesse.
His first-time ball freed Lynden Rowland, who squared the ball back to Tiesse for a tap in.
