Maidstone boss Jay Saunders plans to field a different side in each half against Dagenham in their opening friendly at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday, 3pm.
League 2 Daggers are set to bring a strong squad and Saunders said: “Dagenham brought their first team down last season and enjoyed it. They asked to come back.”
Defender Scott Heard, on trial from Whitstable, is set to feature in the match and will be given the chance to earn a move to Maidstone.
With Richard Davies joining Canvey Island on dual registration, summer signing Callum Driver is United’s only recognised right-back.
Stones assistant boss Nicky Southall recommended Heard, having worked with him at Whitstable.
United manager Jay Saunders said: “Right-back’s the one area we feel we lack competition. Nick knows him well and felt he might offer something.
“He’s on contract at Whitstable but they’ve allowed him to come here so we can have a look.
“Will Graham, the manager at Whitstable, is keen for him to progress.
“I’ve seen him against my teams. He’s a fit lad with lots of energy and I know Ebbsfleet went in for him once.”
