Maidstone scored twice in added time to salvage a point at Havant.

The Stones, who missed a first-half penalty with the game goalless, were heading home empty-handed after Joe Iaciofano struck twice in the space of five minutes.

But they kept pushing and got their rewards with George Porter’s brilliant strike on 92 minutes followed by a bullet Joe Ellull header in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time.

Havant were fuming at all the the added time but fair play to the Stones, who showed tremendous character to battle back.

The Stones were giving a good account of themselves against a Havant side whose management were growing frustrated early on.

Coach Simon Walton - formerly of the Stones - was urging his side to take advantage of Maidstone’s high line and play balls in behind - but it wasn’t happening.

United had a golden chance to take the lead when Amaluzor - the only change to the side from Tuesday night’s win over Welling - was tripped in the box by Moussa Diarra after 20 minutes.

Amaluzor stepped up but hit the base of the post with his penalty.

Hawks boss Paul Doswell had seen enough, abandoning his seat in the stand shortly afterwards and ordering his team to liven up.

They went on to take the lead from a counter-attack down the left in the 29th minute.

Tommy Wright got away down the flank and played in a lovely low cross for Iaciofano, who swept home at the far post.

The game really turned the Hawks’ way in the space of a few seconds in the 34th minute.

First, United’s Scott Rendell had a goal ruled out for offside after Saidou Khan robbed Bedsente Gomis deep in his own half and went on a terrific run before playing him in.

Havant then went down the other end and doubled their lead with Gomis supplying Iaciofano, who was deemed onside, and slotted past Lewington.

Hawks subs, sitting in the stand, were convinced their team-mate was offside.

The hosts had a couple of chances to pull clear in added time before the break, with Wright firing over after turning in space, then Raphe Brown did well on the line to deny Iaciofano after Billy Clifford stood up a ball to the back post.

Maidstone made a promising start to the second half and went close when George Porter’s knockdown from an Amaluzor corner dropped to Elokobi, but his shot was blocked in the six-yard box.

Midway through the half Rendell fired over when through on goal - a decent chance - before Brown worked keeper Ross Worner from distance after bursting down the left as Maidstone continued to push.

Khan - dangerous throughout with his midfield runs - jinked his way into the box in the last 10 minutes, with a deflection taking his shot just past the post.

There was late hope for Maidstone when Porter curled a cracking strike into the corner from 25 yards.

And they earned a point when Ellul climbed and met Kreshnic Krasniqi's deep corner with a thumping header.
