AFC Wimbledon 2 Maidstone 0
MAIDSTONE United were undone by two second half goals in their Ryman League Premier Division clash at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
In front of a crowd of 2,648, the Stones did well to hold out for an hour but were caught out by a controversial goal on 63 minutes.
When the ball was chipped over the defence striker Richard Butler looked to be standing in an offside position.
Butler played to the whistle and headed the ball past keeper Pat Mullin and the goal stood despite incredulous protests from the Maidstone defence.
The Stones seldom looked like scoring themselves but came close to an equaliser on 74 minutes when Errison Ahwan's flying header went just wide.
However, Maidstone were finally killed off after 84 minutes when Tony Finn went through on goal and lobbed Mullin to score the Dons' second goal.
The Stones were lucky to finish the match with 11 players on the field after a ludicrous tackle by Sam Tydeman was only punished by a yellow card.
Maidstone will now have to regroup in time for Tuesday's trip to Billericay.
