Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders saw Tuesday's friendly against Tunbridge Wells as the perfect opportunity to run the rule over some of the club's academy players - and he was pleased with what he saw.
Young midfielder Charley Robertson was Maidstone’s standout performer after the interval and when his header bounced down on the goal line Frannie Collin pounced to head home the winner.
Saunders said: “In the first 25 minutes of each half, I thought we were quite comfortable and then mental tiredness set in. You switch off and we stopped passing the ball.
“I thought Charley Roberston did really well when he came on. Sully (Jack Sullivan) and Dan (Parkinson) did well in the first half.
“It’s pleasing. They’re promising lads, they’ve got a lot of ability, they’re good physically and hopefully they’ll progress.
“We’ll have a good look at them in pre-season but I’d be more than happy to sign them all on league forms because I think they’re capable of playing at that level.
“There’s a few of the younger ones that I’ll look to put out with other clubs to get some experience.”
