Tom Wraight says it’s down to him to show Maidstone fans what he’s all about.

Wraight came off the bench to score his first Stones goal in the 4-0 FA Trophy win at Torquay on Saturday.

Ankle injuries have halted his progress since signing from East Thurrock in the summer and the winger is still to win everyone over – but he has no problem with that.

Wraight said: “Don’t even say the word ankle, it’s a nightmare but it’s been fine for weeks now. I’ve strengthened it up and I wrap it up all the time now and it’s been fine.

“It’s about time I scored a goal. I’m pleased with that and hope to build on from there.

“I always try to impress the supporters and get them on side and prove to them that I can do it. Fans are allowed their opinions, they pay their good money and they’ve been brilliant all season. It’s my job to show them I’m good enough.”

Wraight faces the challenge of nailing down a starting place at Maidstone. It won’t be easy but he’ll keep working hard and feels he has got to grips with the National League after stepping up a level.

He said: “The boys have been brilliant. Where we are in the league doesn’t reflect how well we’ve played.

“It’s hard to get in the side but wherever I can slot in, I’m sure I’ll do a job. It helps at this level being surrounded by better players.

“You have to adapt and be fitter, stronger and that’s what I’ve been trying to
focus on.”
