Jay Saunders expects Billy Bricknell and Shane Huke to brush off comments from their old Ebbsfleet boss Jamie Day.

Day, defending sweeping changes at the club after a 1-0 defeat by Bromley on Tuesday night, claimed the side he inherited from Steve Brown would have lost by three or four goals.

Bricknell and Huke were among those moved on by Day, with Saunders jumping at the chance to bring them to Maidstone.

The Stones boss said: "I don't think they're too worried about what's going on at Ebbsfleet.

"They did well for the club and for whatever reason they've left.

"It might spur them on but I don't think they'll be reading much into what Jamie said. It's up to Jamie what he says.

"He's the manager and he knows what he means and why he said it."

Bricknell completes a two-match suspension in the rearranged League Cup quarter-final at Hendon tonight (Wednesday, 7.45pm) while Huke is nearing fitness after a knee injury.

Saunders added: "Bill's desperate to get his first goal for us and when he does, he'll go on a run. Hukey starts back training on Thursday."
