Maidstone midfielder Simon Walton described his goal against Wrexham as a once-in-a-blue-moon strike.
Walton’s 25-yard stunner gave United the lead at the Gallagher Stadium on Saturday.
It would have been a fitting winner but the Dragons snatched a point with a deflected equaliser.
Walton, a defensive midfielder by trade, said: “To be fair, I had a couple first half and I don’t normally get many shots in a game, so it was nice to see it fly in.
“It’s one of those that as soon as you hit it, you know it’s going in. It’s once in a blue moon.
“It wasn’t the best first touch, I’m not going to lie to you.
“It got away from me a little bit and I just thought, as you do when you’re four-years-old, keep your head over the ball and it went in.
“It’s a shame it wasn’t the winning goal but it was nice to get a goal.”
Walton had a spell with Wrexham’s Welsh rivals, Cardiff, and likes scoring against the Dragons.
He said: “To be fair, that’s twice in two seasons I’ve scored against Wrexham now funnily enough, so hopefully we play them again soon and I get another one.
“It was a good performance and if you’d given us a point before the game, would we have taken it? Probably.
“The way the game went, we were disappointed, which says a lot about how far we’ve come.”
