Maidstone have no fear going to Tranmere Rovers for their biggest game of the season.

It’s only 16 years since Rovers were walking out at Wembley for the League Cup final as a Championship club, while United were in the Kent County League.

But they meet as equals on Saturday albeit with Rovers top of the National League having won all four games.

Stones, who are seventh, travel to Tranmere’s 16,500-capacity Prenton Park stadium with confidence after back-to-back wins.

Manager Jay Saunders said: “They’re a massive club and it’s going to be tough but we can go there and actually try to enjoy it.

“We go there with no fear at all and I’ll say to the boys before the game, ‘you’ve earned the right to be playing at a ground like this over the last few fears, so go out there and enjoy it’.

“If they do that and they work hard, I’ll have no problem with what happens. It’s mad to think we’re even playing them but they deserve it. We’ve worked hard to get to the level we’re at.

“As long as we go out there and give it our all and don’t get shown up, which we haven’t done this season yet, then I’ll be happy.”

Saunders added: “They’re good going forward, they’ve got plenty of experience in their team and they’re in a good catchment area up there with ex-Everton and Liverpool boys.

“They’ve got an experienced manager, they’ll be well-drilled and they’ll have done their homework on us, so it’s going to be tough but we can look forward to it on the back of two wins."
