Delano Sam-Yorke is in the unusual position of knowing a successful loan at Maidstone could leave his parent club in big trouble.
The striker has joined United on a two-month deal from National League relegation rivals Woking, making his debut at Guiseley on Saturday.
The Cards are in the bottom four, two points behind Maidstone, who sit just outside the drop zone.
But Woking boss Garry Hill was happy to let his man move to the Gallagher, confident that both clubs will stay up.
Stones manager Jay Saunders said: "I suppose it is a gamble for them to let him come to us but I think Garry, when we had a chat, we’d like to think we can both get out of it.
"They’re a club I’d like to see stay in the league because they’re a big club and we’re a club that I’m sure they would like to see stay in the league.
"Delano was desperate to play at this level.
"There was one other club that wanted him and that was a long, long way away from where he lives, so it worked out all right for us.
"Garry was good with us. It’s not that he doesn’t rate the lad, it’s just that the other lad up top’s been very good for them.
"You could see what he offered us. He held things up, had a good bit of pace and he caused a few problems."
Sam-Yorke heard of Maidstone's interest through his agent, with a deal done the next day.
He said: "Garry Hill was fine with it to be fair.
"He said 'I wouldn't stop you from going there just because they're challenging with us.' It was fine. Both clubs are equipped to stay up - 100%.
"I just want to do as well as possible, help Maidstone as much as possible to stay in this league and go from there."
Maidstone's other loan signing, Bromley midfielder Reece Prestedge, made his debut at Guiseley. He's on board for the rest of the season.
Saunders said: "He’s someone I’ve liked for a little while.
"We’ve been speaking about it for about a month with Bromley but there were a few things we had to sort out. I’m pleased to get it done.
"You could see he has good experience, he won a few tackles, he was good on the ball and with a few games I think he’ll get better and better for us."
