Travellers moved on from Castle Way, Leybourne, are now said to be in Constitution Hill, Snodland

A group of travellers who were moved on from Leybourne earlier this week have now settled in Snodland.

The travellers, with 15 caravans, pitched up on the green space in Constitution Hill late last night.

They are believed to be the same ones who were told to leave Leybourne on Tuesday, after arriving on Thursday evening.

The land, which is owned by Tonbridge and Malling council, is 10m from residential properties.

Chairman of Snodland Town Council, Anne Moloney, said it was the first instance of travellers stopping in the town she had known for 25 years.

She said: “This is one of the few areas we have that isn’t gated.

“The local people are concerned. It is also a piece of land where the local children go to kick and ball and play. Nobody minds too much if they don’t trash the place but we are concerned.”

The borough council’s solicitor and police visited the site this morning to issue them with a declaration telling them to leave.
