An Aldi store is temporarily shutting down to be renovated.

The store on Hermitage Lane, Aylesford, will be closed for nearly a week, starting from Friday.

The renovations are part of Aldi's 'Project Fresh', a £600 million investment, which aims to create an improved in-store experience for customers.

A new layout, wider aisles and clearer signs are set to provide easier navigation.

Fresh bread and cakes will be moved to the last aisle, so people pick them up last - preventing them from being squashed under other shopping.

Extra fridge space will allow for a wider selection of fresh meat and fish, while stand-up freezers will provide easier access and viewing.

Opening in September 2016, the Hermitage Lane branch has been running for more than five years.

While the Aldi store is shutting for an upgrade, its competitor, Lidl, opened a new branch in Ditton less than a month ago.

An Aldi spokesperson said: “We will close our Aylesford store on Friday, January 21 at 8pm to carry out refurbishment works.

“When we reopen on Thursday, January 27 at 8am, the store will be in our new layout, which ensures more space for fresh, chilled and food-to-go ranges. It will be much brighter with simpler layouts and wider aisles.

"We will keep the community updated on developments.”

Alternative Aldi stores that are open during this time include Well Road, Maidstone and Horsted Retail Park, Chatham.
