A BT exchange box which has sprung up in the centre of Aylesford has prompted the area’s MP to write to the company’s chief executive in the hope it could be moved.

The large green cabinet has been placed in a seating area in the village square, which is in a conservation area and has strict controls for local residents.

Chatham and Aylesford MP Tracey Crouch, who has written to BT chief executive Gavin Patterson, said it had caused uproar in the village.

“Residents in the area are unable to paint their doors or replace their windows without it being done in respect of the special status of the area, nor is anyone allowed a satellite dish on their roof.

Loneliness Minister: Tracey Crouch

“For BT to put a large green box in the square has upset residents, especially since there are suitable alternatives available.”

She suggested to Mr Patterson that it could be moved around 15m away, where it would be next to a pillar box and against a wall.

BT was unavailable for comment.
