There was a real buzz at a West Peckham pub when a swarm of bees was spotted under one of the picnic tables.

The pub, the Swan on the Green at West Peckham, called in a trained beekeeper to get rid of it.

They were spotted on one of the hottest days of the year, when temperatures of 32 degrees recorded across the county.

Swarms are often spotted in the hotter months, as bees make attempts to shimmer their wings to cool down the Queen.

In May pest control expert Craig Vass was called to a housing estate near Barming Heath after reports of a swarm of wasps, which turned out to be bees.

He said: "They are not dangerous, they are solitary. So if you don't harm them then they won't feel threatened in any way.

"If you cause havoc for them in a way which disturbs them, they can be hostile. You should leave them alone and be calm."

Mr Vass, from Ashford, added that if you find a swarm of bees, the best thing to do is to leave them be as they normally move on within 24 hours.
