A blind dog whose plight touched the hearts of hundreds has gone for treatment which could save the sight in one of her eyes.

Delphine the springer spaniel was abandoned and found tied to a pallet of bricks in Hayle Place, Maidstone, in May.

Staff caring for her at the RSPCA centre in Leybourne set up a fund to get her her sight back, after it was found she had cataracts in both eyes, and one was suitable for removal.

With a target of £2,500 to raise, the fund has already reached more than £3,600.

Yesterday, Delphine travelled back to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket for the surgery.

Hundreds of people have already donated to the fund, with many others handing in donations to the Castle Way centre’s reception.

It’s not known how long she will need to stay at the trust after her surgery, but it is likely to be at least two days.

Staff have said that any additional funds raised will go to help other animals at the centre.
