A dog which was found abandoned and injured in the woods after being hit by a car is searching for a new home.

Two-year-old crossbreed Raza has been finding life hard at the RSPCA animal centre in Leybourne and staff are now looking for new owners to take her in.

Despite a tough start, the resilient pooch is still showing off her bubbly personality but is struggling with kennel life.

Supervisor Laura Bowbrick explained: “She loves playing with her toys, volunteering with the centre through training and learning new skills and interacting with staff and others.”

Raza’s search for a new home has lasted eight months after she was transferred to the Kent centre after originally being taken to RSPCA Finsbury Park animal centre in February.

Staff believe she is being overlooked due to her size and breed, with smaller dogs usually being adopted quicker.

Laura added: “Raza is such a sweetie and absolutely loves interacting with all of our staff and volunteers here. She loves to do training and learn new things, and loves playing with her toys.

“But in her kennel she really struggles and she’s so unhappy in our care, which is breaking our hearts.

“Sadly, we think because she’s a large, black dog she’s being overlooked by potential adopters. But we’re hoping that we can find someone who will see Raza’s beauty, both inside and out, and give her a chance.”

Raza isn’t the only one out there seeking a loving home as figures from the RSPCA show how 42% more animals arrived at the RSPCA than were adopted.
