Firefighters were called after a car caught alight next to a pub.
The aftermath of the blaze was pictured outside The Farm House in West Malling High Street.
At around 3pm the “explosions” could be heard coming from a black Volvo which erupted into flames and produced large amounts of smoke which filled the streets.
One witness at the scene described how the vehicle was extinguished within about 30 minutes.
The car was severely damaged, with most of its windows missing and covered exterior burnt out.
A picture taken by a passer-by shows three fire crew members investigating the vehicle.
It is not yet known if the pub has been affected by the blaze.
A fire service spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a vehicle alight at 3.05pm.
“A firefighter wearing breathing apparatus put out the flames using a high-pressure hose reel jet.
“Unfortunately, the vehicle was not able to be saved.
“There are no reports of any injuries and the cause is thought to be accidental.”
The Farm House has been contacted for more information.
