A sixth form has closed after a pupil tested positive for coronavirus.

All Year 12 and 13 pupils at the Malling School in East Malling have been sent home to learn remotely today.

The rest of the school remains open and pupils in the sixth form who have not been told to self isolate will return to classrooms on Monday.

In a letter sent home to parents yesterday, Head teacher John Vennart said: "I am writing to inform you that we have been advised this afternoon that there has been one confirmed case of Covid-19 within our sixth form.

"Following advice from Public Health England (PHE) we have taken the decision to close the school for our sixth form only on Friday, November 13.

"Sixth form pupils will be taught remotely for the day.

"The school site remains open for all other pupils and they should continue to attend if they are symptom free.

"As advised by PHE we are identifying those who have had close contact with the relevant individual, these students will receive separate further guidance on self isolation and remote learning.

"Sixth form pupils who have not been instructed to isolate will return to school on Monday, November 16."

The school in Beech Road will join the long list of schools in Kent affected by the virus.
