A stunned villager has told of the moment she heard a giant bang as an out-of-control car smashed into a block of flats.
Jenny Scott was on the phone when the vehicle sped across a green space in front of her home before bouncing across the road and into railings.
The dramatic moment was captured on a doorbell camera in Carnation Crescent in East Malling.
The footage shows the red car colliding with bollards before it approaches the flats at speed.
Battling to keep control of the vehicle, the driver narrowly avoided a row of houses on the green but then crashed – causing major damage to fencing and the railings.
The driver, who also managed to avoid several parked cars, is said to have climbed out of the wreckage uninjured.
A police spokesman confirmed they were called at 8.15am on January 30 at 8.15am after a car collided with a fence.
He added: “Officers immediately attended and there were no reported injuries, however the vehicle had been abandoned and any occupants had left the scene.
“An investigation is ongoing to locate the driver and officers have been carrying out local enquiries, including the review of CCTV.
“Anyone with information which may assist the investigation should contact Kent Police on 01622 604100, quoting reference 30-0210.”
Resident Shaun Holland, who posted the video on social media, said: “Five minutes later and my daughter and the kids would have been walking to school.”
The footage also captured a shocked witness outside the flats as he watches the car smash into the fence, while another person is heard saying “Oh my god”.
People living nearby have described the loud boom they heard.
Mrs Scott, who lives in a house opposite the crash site, said: “I was on the telephone, and I heard this big bang.
“When I got up and had a look there was a red car that had come across the road and landed in the alleyway opposite where I live. It was all smashed up and a young boy got out.”
The 63-year-old, who has lived on the estate for 32 years, confirmed there were no signs of injuries, and an ambulance did not attend.
Several other residents, who didn’t want to be named, said they did not know why the driver lost control.
When KentOnline visited the scene, there were smashed fence panels, bent railings, and parts of the car still there.
The driver is believed to have walked away from the crash site.
