Homemade lava lamps, electrical circuits and water filters filled a school hall as Snodland CEP School held its first science fair.

Pupils were encouraged to come up with their own ideas to show off their scientific knowledge coinciding with British Science Week.

With the death of Professor Stephen Hawking coming in the same week, the Roberts Road primary school decided to hold the inaugural fair in honour of the world renowned scientist.

A presentation was set up with pictures and quotations from the physicist, as pupils looked at their peers’ displays, as well as an information board on Prof Hawking’s life and work.

Year one teacher Sian Richardson said: “I became the school’s science leader in September, the fair is something I just wanted to try out to see how it went.
