Firefighters rescued two men stranded on an island in marshland close to the River Medway at Wouldham this afternoon.

The rising tide left the men unable to reach the shore just before 2pm. Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service used a boat to bring them back to dry land near Old Church Road.

Earlier unsubstantiated reports on Twitter had suggested emergency services were rescuing two people 'stuck in the mud'.
