Flowers and a bottle of beer have been placed as tributes in Holly Hill Wood, near Snodland, following the death of a young footballer.

Jay Carr, aged 20, was found dead near the town on Tuesday after being reported missing the day before.

Officers involved in the search discovered a body at around 1.30pm.

A police spokesman said: "Formal identification has not yet taken place, however the family of a 20-year-old man who was reported missing on Monday, September 19, have been informed.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner."

The flower bouquets and the Stella Artois bottle were only some of the many tributes from friends and family.

Team-mates and club members at Aylesford Football Club have paid tribute to the much-loved player, describing him as a 'special person' on and off the pitch.

Graham Martin, who had worked as assistant manager when Jay played at K Sports and Larkfield and New Hythe FC, said he was devastated to hear the news.

He said: "He was just a lovely lad, it's unreal. As a footballer he was competitive, very competitive and very reliable - he never missed training. He was very good socially too - he'd always be part of a team night out. As a sports person he was everything you should be."

And posting on Facebook he added: "JC you were a great lad to know and it was a pleasure to work with you on the football pitch. REST IN PEACE SON XX."
