With Covid restrictions easing, members of the Townsend Hook Bowls Club are looking forward to getting back on the green again.

The club in Paddlesworth Road, Snodland, re-opens on April 24.

It will be a welcome return to normality for members. The club was first forced to close due to Covid in March 2020. It saw a very limited re-opening last summer but has been closed again since October.

The club was formed in 1926 and - as the name suggests - was originally for workers of the Townsend Hook paper mill, but that is no longer the case, and these days anyone can join.

The club is hoping for an influx of new members and will hold an open day on Bank Holiday Monday, May 31, starting at 1pm, when anyone is welcome to come along and try their hand.

Club spokesman Nick Scott said: "Played outdoors, bowls is the perfect sport as age and gender are no barrier.

"Couples especially enjoy bowls as they can play and socialise together. It is also a good way to maintain fitness and widen your social life."

You will soon pick up the essentials

He said: "Inexperience won’t matter as you will quickly pick up the essentials.

"There is a good social side and you will soon make new friends.

"The club has excellent facilities and a friendly atmosphere. We also hold other activities such as charity fund raising events, quizzes and the like."
