An "out of control" thug who dragged one woman to the ground and spat in the face of another has been jailed.

Abie Ianson also spat at two police officers after he had been arrested.

The 20-year-old of Lunsford Lane, Larkfield, admitted one count of affray and two counts of assaulting a police officer at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

The hearing happened at Medway Magistrates Court

He was sentenced to 340 days imprisonment two days after his arrest.

The offences also activated two previous suspended sentences for which he received a further 160 days imprisonment.

The court heard that officers were called to a disturbance in Leybourne Way, Larkfield, at 5.40pm on Sunday.

During this Ianson pulled a woman’s hair and dragged her to the ground. He then spat three times in the face of another woman who was trying to intervene.

Several members of the public came to the aid of the women, as did two off duty police officers. One of them stayed with Ianson while the other gave first aid to one of the victims.

Two on duty officers then arrived and arrested Ianson, who was first taken to hospital due to concerns that he was under the influence of alcohol.

Police arrested two men

While at the hospital however, he spat at the two officers escorting him.

Det Sgt Dan Barker said: "Ianson subjected numerous people to degrading and unacceptable levels of abuse and I am pleased that he has been dealt with so soon after his arrest.

"Ianson was reckless and out of control on the day of this incident and the injuries to the two women could have been much more serious had members of the public, and off duty police officers, not intervened when they did."
