Her Majesty The Queen will spend time meeting veterans in Kent next month.

The world's longest reigning monarch is visiting Royal British Legion Industries in Aylesford on November 6.

A £2m donation from Greenwich Hospital takes RBLI to 75% of its fundraising target for its Centenary Village (19102825)

Royal British Legion Industries celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and is raising money to create a village for ex service personnel.

Kent Messenger chose the RBLI as its Charity of the Year for 2019 to support it raising money for the centenary village.

Work will begin later this year on the development which will include 22 apartments, each designed to be fully accessible and house single veterans in urgent need, 16 new family homes, and a further 24 assisted-living apartments.

At the heart of the new development, which will sit alongside RBLI’s existing village, care homes and manufacturing facility, will be a state-of-the-art community centre with accessible gym.

RBLI is responsible for Britain's Bravest Manufacturing Company in Aylesford, employing veterans to create items which are sold in shops.

Earlier this year coasters created at BBMC went on sale at 192 Morrison's supermarkets around the country.

The RBLI started life in Preston Hall, Aylesford, supporting veterans fighting tuberculosis.

Queen Elizabeth II is the patron of RBLI's sister charity, the Royal British Legion.

Details of The Queen's visit have now emerged following a shorter announcement that Her Royal Highness was visiting the county, released earlier today.
