A daring student nurse took the plunge and had 31 inches of hair shaved after being inspired by those working around her.
Crystal Wilson, 25, who lives in Wrotham, was touched by the work of nurses on Lord North Ward, which deals with cancer patients, when she joined the staff at Maidstone Hospital.
It pushed her to want to fundraise for the Heart of Kent Hospice in Aylesford, which cares for patients with life limiting conditions.
The mum of two said: “It is a really hard thing to do, to say goodbye to a patient. And the people who work at the hospice deal with this all the time. It takes someone so strong to be able to help for the patient and their family. I have deep admiration for them.”
She has already raised more than £1,200 from the feat. Her hair went to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children undergoing chemotherapy.
