A landlord has revealed how he frantically tried to save the life of a man who tragically died after collapsing outside his pub.

Police and ambulance crews were called to West Malling High Street just after 5pm yesterday after the man, believed to be in his 60s, was seen unresponsive on the seats outside the Joiners Arms.

Landlord Tony Stevens, along with a worker from the nearby doctor's surgery, rushed to his aid and did their best to keep him alive before paramedics came on the scene.

He said: "We just got him on the floor, ran to get the defibrillator from the Tesco store opposite and tried our best to work on him until they arrived about 15 minutes later.

"They took over when they got there and worked on him for another 20 minutes or so before putting him in the back of the ambulance.

"They thanked us and said that we gave him a chance but it was very sad.

"I was in the fire brigade for years so I've seen it all before and I know that in these situations you don't really think about it, you just spring into action.
