A man was found dead at a beauty spot where a parkrun event was due to be held.

Kent Police was called to Leybourne Lakes Country Park, near Larkfield at around 8pm on Friday evening due to “concern for an unresponsive man”.

Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and the man, who was in his 30s, was confirmed dead at the scene.

The popular 5k parkrun, which was due to take place at 9am the next morning, was cancelled following the tragedy.

In a statement posted online at 9pm on Friday, organisers said: "Event cancelled due to a serious ongoing incident. Please stay away from the park.

"There will be a volunteer at the car park entrance to let people know and hopefully avoid unnecessary parking charges.

"We have no further information regarding the incident but we complied with the request from park managers to cancel on a precautionary basis."

The man’s next of kin have been informed.

Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a report has been prepared for the coroner.
