Kent campaigners are welcoming a landmark law that will view children as potential domestic abuse victims for the first time.

The Domestic Abuse Bill has been passed amid a rise in domestic abuse reports during the Covid-19 lockdown.

Campaigners praise the legislation, which allows greater sentencing freedom to judges who currently have minimal powers to protect victims.

Among those rejoicing today is Malling's Paula Hudgell, whose adoptive son Tony had to have both legs amputated after receiving horrific abuse at the hands of his birth parents.

This dose of good news comes hot on the heels of the successful completion of his fundraising month-long walk - an effort praised by a host of royals, politicians and even the stars of his favourite football team.

Tony raised more than £1 million during the charitable campaign, which he finished yesterday.
