The largest logistics real estate company in Europe has plans for a new site in Kent.

Panattoni acquired the eight-acre former home of Marley Tiles at Wrotham off the A20 London Road in 2022.

The deal saw Marley move to one of the new units Panattoni has created in Aylesford at what used to be Aylesford Newsprint.

At the time, Panattoni announced it would create a new logistics centre on the old Marley site that would be occupied by national parcel firm DPD, delivering 250 new jobs, but that apparently is no longer the case.

The firm has new plans, which it will reveal to the public at a consultation event next week.

The proposal now is to create a facility with high environmental credentials to accommodate six businesses of varying sizes, supporting between 140 and 265 full-time jobs, in two buildings.

Tony Watkins, development director at Panattoni, said: “Our plans promise to give a new lease of life to this massively underused brownfield employment site.

“It is in a strategic position with easy access to the M20 and M26 and could easily support hundreds of jobs in modern, energy-efficient buildings.

“We want to hear what local residents think about our proposals, so that wherever possible we can reflect their feedback when we make our final planning application.”

The consultation session will be held in the main office on the site itself between 2pm and 5pm on Tuesday next week (December 3).

There would be a period in which the public could give their views on the scheme to Panattoni, which would close on January 10 next year.

The firm said it would use LED lighting, solar panels, heat pumps, rainwater harvesting and electric charging points to make the site as sustainable as possible.

Panattoni hopes to submit a planning application to Tonbridge and Malling council in the spring.

Marley Tiles had been at the site since the 1950s.

Although it has a common historical link, Marley Tiles is a separate company to Marley Plumbing and Drainage, which is now owned by Aliaxis, and which earlier this year took the decision to close its factory in Dickley Road, Lenham.

Panattoni has been judged the largest logistics real estate developer in Europe for the eighth year in a row, following a survey by PropertyEU, based on the volume of floorspace delivered.
