Offham Primary School evacuated due to gas leak

A primary school was evacuated this morning following a gas leak in the classroom.

Offham Primary School, in Church Road, closed for an hour and a half while 211 children waited on the field and in the village hall.

An engineer was called to the site and located the leak, with the gas now turned off.

No one was in the class room at the time and head teacher said Ruth Powell the engineer had confirmed at no time was anyone at risk.

She said: "Gas was smelt on the premises this morning and the school was immediatelky evacuated using our Emergency Plan.

"The gas has been turned off and we are awaiting an engineer to fix the leak. The school is now open as usual and if it's not back on by tomorrow temporary heaters and non-alcoholic hand gel will be in place.

"No children were in the class room at the time as they had a drama workshop."
