A pub manager has challenged himself to break the Guinness World Record for the most pubs visited in 24 hours.

To beat the record, Chris Peach, the general manager of The Spitfire pub, in West Malling, will have to visit more than 56 pubs.

He is attempting to break the record to raise money for his niece, Amelia Rose, who was born with a cleft lip.

Amelia lives in Africa and so is not eligible to gain NHS treatment, and has to pay privately for surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Chris said: “It is because of this that I decided to give myself a not so little challenge and use the record attempt as a fundraiser to help my niece get the treatment she needs."

The previous record of 56 was set by Gareth Murphy, from Wales, who only drank two pints of beer on the pub crawl overall.

Chris, who has been working at the Shepherd Neame pub for six years, has already planned his journey between 60 different pubs, and will be starting at just after noon on Saturday, September 24.

He will begin in Central London and will gradually make his way back to The Spitfire the next morning to round things off.

To break the record, he only needs to buy a 125ml drink at each pub, which does not necessarily have to be alcoholic. However, Chris has said he will be alternating between alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks over the course of the 24 hours.

Adrian Burke, who is a regular at The Spitfire, will be helping Chris by monitoring him throughout the time period. He also helped him to organise the route and timings.

The rest of his team at The Spitfire will be also be helping him to provide witness statements at each pub – which needs to be two witnesses every four hours.

Chris said: "Originally, I was hoping to do all Shepherd Neame pubs and fill in the gaps with some others but it was harder than you’d think.

"But if there's one thing I'm good at, it's drinking Sheps beers, in Sheps pubs so I will be having a few at the end!"
