There were rush hour delays on train services between Maidstone and London after a railway bridge was struck by a lorry.

The collision, in Maidstone Road in Wrotham Heath, was reported by a passer by at 8.35am.

Trains were stopped from running over the bridge as a precaution and the 8.45am Southeastern service from Maidstone to Blackfriars had to be held for 15 minutes while Network Rail made safety checks.

At 9am, after reviewing CCTV of the crash, the bridge was reopened to trains, which were initially sent over at a slow speed until an inspector was able to confirm there was no damage.

The lorry has since been recovered.
