A dog who was cruelly beaten by her owner is looking for a new home, after spending two years in RSPCA kennels without a single enquiry.

Gypsy came to the Leybourne Animal Centre in March following an 18-month-long cruelty investigation, and was initially described as “untrusting, defensive and hand shy.”

A video of the five-year-old English bull terrier cross enjoying a dip in a paddling pool, shared on Facebook by the Castle Way rescue centre, has been shared 280 times online.

But the pooch has still had no interest in terms of a potential new family coming forward, to the surprise of staff and volunteers there.

Deputy manager at Leybourne, Angelina Allingham, said: “Gypsy has had a really bad start to life but over time she has learnt to trust those caring for her and is slowly blossoming into a delightful dog.

“She can be very excitable. She is mad as a hatter, loves her walks, toys and is a bit of a water baby when it comes to the paddling pool.

“Sadly there has been no interest in her whatsoever, which is really quite sad as she has tons of potential to make a fantastic pet.”

For now Gypsy would be best suited to a single pet household, but could probably live with secondary school age children. It would be ideal if her new adopter had experience with English Bull Terriers already and she needs someone with the patience to continue her training, rehabilitation and socialisation with other dogs.
