The motorway was shut London-bound between Junction 4 for West Malling, Rochester and Tonbridge and Junction 3 for Sevenoaks.

Police helped release vehicles caught in the long tail-backs.

It reopened just before 10am.

The arrested man has been bailed, pending further enquires, until June 12.

Officers want to speak with anyone who saw the Corolla in the moments leading up to the crash, or who may have dashcam footage.

Witnesses can call Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538 quoting reference DB/DM/36/17, or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk.
